How copywriting contributes to marketing success

Homo sapiens are not the only species blessed with communication. All species have developed their own communication methods.
Octopuses and other cephalopods change their skin colour to camouflage and to communicate with each other. Tiny and seemingly harmless poison dart frogs, native to South America, have bright neon colours which shout "danger" to predators. Local tribes in South American jungles learned to extract the poison on their skin to make tiny but effective darts for hunting wild animals and hence the name poison dart frog.
Though we simply divide communication into two main categories as verbal and non-verbal, human communication is no less complex than any other creature. We observe the world around us and ask questions to gather information and process verbal data and non-verbal cues to form opinions and make decisions. Communication is vital for our survival and is a key of our success as species.
Our success lies in the complexity of our communication and the fact that we pass it on. It is not only individuals who use communication. Business entities also have messages to tell to their audience. In marketing, we use various forms of communication, using visuals and written language to create meaningful exchanges with customers.
Though it is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, writing is still a powerful way of communicating with the audience. English playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton's famous "the pen is mightier than the sword" quote is not said in vain.
In marketing, we refer to writing with a specific term called copywriting. Copywriters mainly write content for websites, blogs, emails, advertising, newsletters as well as writing product descriptions, and of course much more
Copywriting does more than helping companies promote or sell their products. Freelance copywriters help companies write messages that would intrigue and inform consumers about the brands. With good copywriting, they can also make consumers more entertained. Clear, concise and consistent communication is extremely important in marketing in conveying brand messages to the target audience and consumers.
Another thing is the channels we use to deliver our messages. The Internet is a platform that completely changed the way we communicate and how we present our message to masses. It's super fast and convenient but this exposure machine has its own set of rules.
Writing in a way that anyone can understand is a rule of thumb but not good enough. People's attention spans on the Internet are incredibly short. Viewers of a website will spend 30 seconds to two minutes before they'll leave a website, if the message isn't interesting enough to compel them. Therefore, creating engaging content is how copywriters (and marketers) can help you with.
With the digitalisation, seo copywriting entered the scene. Writing engaging, entertaining and informing content now must take into account the SEO practices for the ranking of company pages on SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) as well.
Being good in what you do is not enough if you cannot show it. This is why companies need to communicate their strengths effectively through copywriting. If you're like most businesses, you might tend to think that writing is simply about conveying your message. It is true to an extent. But there is more to communication.
The Internet has the potential to reach a company to international customers. To know what type of language is necessary to respond and communicate with the customers is one area that companies need to seriously consider getting professional help. As George Bernard Shaw put it “the single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Many businesses do not realise that their communication is incomplete.
Professional writing is about explaining your brand and your products/services and making them accessible to your audience, especially to those who may know little or nothing about who you are and what you do. In addition, a well presented copy will distinguish your brand from others as it will have a unique way of telling your story. Making your brand stand out from the crowd is what paves the way to success. And most importantly, good copy connects the reader to you who happens to be customers and therefore strengthens the bond between the client and the brand.
Whether you communicate your message to convince people or you want them to understand what you do, professional communication makes a huge difference in encouraging people to know more about your brand.
